Jones: 'I'm so proud of everyone at the football club'

Nathan Jones was overwhelmed with pride after leading Charlton Athletic into the Sky Bet Championship with a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient at Wembley Stadium.

"I'm feeling relieved and euphoric, but the overriding feeling is pride really," explained the gaffer. "Pride in my football club, pride in the work that we've done and pride in how we've come together - what a turnout for this football club today.

"The players responded with a dogged, gritty, structured performance and I'm so proud of everyone at the football club - everyone came together today and it just shows what this club can achieve.

"I came here not because I wanted to manage in League One, I came here to manage Charlton because Charlton is a fantastic football club," he added. "It's been a wonderful day, a wonderful occasion and one that I'm going to cherish and remember for the rest of my life."

Macaulay Gillesphey provided the match-winning moment on 31 minutes, curling a left-footed free-kick beyond O's stopper Josh Keeley.

"When I first came in, I had stern words with Macaulay about doing this and doing that to play in our team and in our structure," said Jones. "He's been absolutely exceptional and this season he's stepped up with big goals as well. I'm really proud of him and proud of everyone - the back three was immense. We had to defend well because Leyton Orient are a good side that score goals."
