LGBTQI+ supporters group celebrate 10th Anniversary with return of The Valley tournament
The Charlton vs Homophobia Tournament returns to The Valley for the first time since lockdown to celebrate Proud Valiants’ 10 years of fighting discrimination in football.
Charlton Athletic and the club's LGBTQI+ supporters’ group, Proud Valiants, will host the fifth edition of the tournament at The Valley, with special thanks to the Football Supports Association’s Fans for Diversity campaign for helping make it happen.
Rob Harris, Founder and Co-Chair of Proud Valiants, said: “We are delighted to be able to bring back the Charlton vs Homophobia tournament for the first time since lockdown. This was always a fantastic day not only for the teams competing, but spectators and families to come in to enjoy the occasion.
“This is not only a celebration of the last 10 years, but a reminder of the importance that the work we do continues for another 10 years and beyond.”
The hosts, Proud Valiants, are the current holders of the tournament crown, and will be defending their title against Charlton Athletic Community Trust's Charlton Invicta, the University of Greenwich, and the Metropolitan Police. The Proud Valiants are delighted to confirm that the manager of their team throughout this tournament will be their patron and Charlton legend, Paul Mortimer.
The event will take place at The Valley on Monday, May 26th, kicking off at 3pm, with spectators welcome to come watch.
